The year is defined from the first full moon after winter solstice, to the last full moon on or before winter solstice.
The year begins at the bottom of the dial and proceeds clockwise (in the same manner a day is tracked on a sundial).
Major points in the sun’s annual progression approximately overlap phases of the moon and months of Gregorian counting.
Years with thirteen full moons mark the first as O, to indicate belewe (“betrayer”) or false first moon (traditional blue/leap moon).
